Rippers
The ripper attachment is mounted on the rear of the
dozer (fig. 11-20). The ripper is a powerful tool used to
break up compacted materials; to uproot boulders and
stumps; to loosen shale, sandsstone, and asphalt pave-
ment; and to rip up concrete slabs. After these materials
are uprooted or ripped, they can be removed easier by

ripper teeth in the ground, because damage to the ripper
teeth and assembly can occur.
Winches
A winch is mounted on the rear of the dozer
(fig. 11-21) and is directly geared to the rear power
takeoff. This arrangement permits development of a line
supporting equipment.
