Loosen clamp (Figure 2, Item 12) on inlet hose/tube assembly (Figure 2, Item 13).
3.
Remove inlet hose/tube assembly (Figure 2, Item 13) and hose clamp (Figure 2, Item 12) from heat
exchanger inlet cover (Figure 2, Item 14).
4.
Remove 14 bolts (Figure 2, Item 11) and lockwashers (Figure 2, Item 10) from heat exchanger inlet
cover (Figure 2, Item 14).
5.
Remove heat exchanger inlet cover (Figure 2, Item 14) and gasket (Figure 2, Item 15) from expansion
tank (Figure 2, Item 7). Discard gasket.
6.
Loosen hose clamp (Figure 2, Item 1) on outlet hose/tube assembly (Figure 2, Item 23).
7.
Remove outlet hose/tube assembly (Figure 2, Item 23) and clamp (Figure 2, Item 1) from outlet flange
(Figure 2, Item 3).
8.
Remove six bolts (Figure 2, Item 22) and lockwashers (Figure 2, Item 21) from outlet
flange (Figure 2, Item 3).
9.
Remove outlet flange (Figure 2, Item 3) containing O-rings (Figure 2, Item 4) and packing retainers
(Figure 2, Item 20) from expansion tank (Figure 2, Item 7).
10.
Remove and discard four O-rings (Figure 2, Item 4) and two packing retainers (Figure 2, Item 20).
11.
Remove 14 bolts (Figure 2, Item 19) and lockwashers (Figure 2, Item 18) from outlet cover
(Figure 2, Item 5). Discard lockwashers.
12.
Remove outlet cover (Figure 2, Item 5) and gasket (Figure 2, Item 6) from expansion tank (Figure 2, Item 7).
Discard gasket.
13.
Remove heat exchanger core (Figure 2, Item 16) and gasket (Figure 2, Item 17). Discard gasket.

CLEANING
WARNING
Cleaning compound (MIL-PRF-29602) may cause irritation to the eyes or skin. Use in
well-ventilated areas and keep away from heat and open flame. Wear protective goggles
and clothing. In case compound comes in contact with:
Eyes, flush immediately with water.
Skin, wash with soap and water.
Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
NOTE
To prevent drying and hardening of accumulated foreign substances, the heat exchanger
core must be cleaned as soon as possible after removing it from service.
1.
Immerse heat exchanger core (Figure 2, Item 16) into cleaning compound.
2.
Remove heat exchanger core (Figure 2, Item 16) from cleaning compound when foaming and
bubbling stops.
