This troubleshooting procedure is typical for both port and starboard engines.
TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE
HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION
SYMPTOM
Diesel engine has high oil consumption due to external leaks.
MALFUNCTION
Oil lines or connections leaking.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Tighten any loose connections or replace any oil lines that are cracked or broken (WP 0118).
2.
Perform operational check of diesel engine (TM 55-1925-205-10).
MALFUNCTION
Gaskets or oil seals leaking.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Steam clean engine and run at no-load RPM to reveal leaking gaskets or oil seals.
2.
Repair oil leaks by replacing necessary gaskets and seals. Contact Maintenance Supervisor.
3.
Perform operational check of diesel engine (TM 55-1925-205-10).
