Make the necessary reports.LOST FUEL OIL PRESSUREFAILED MAIN ENGINE LUBEOIL PRESSURE1. Secure the engine immediately.2. Notify the engineer officer and the bridge.3. Check the sump oil level, the piping, thefilters, the strainers, and the lube oil pumpcapacity. Make repairs.4. After repairs have been completed, notifythe engineer officer and the bridge.1. Notify the bridge.2. Check the entire fuel system, includingstrainers, filters, and valves. Check the amountof fuel in service tanks, fuel lines, pumps, andrelief valves until the trouble is found.3. Make necessary repairs and test the engine.4. Place the engine back in commission whenthe troubles are corrected.ABNORMALLY HIGH LUBE OILTEMPERATUREWATER IN AN ENGINE CYLINDER,CRANKCASE, OR AIR PORTS1. Notify the OOD and the engineer officerand keep them informed.2. Do not allow the engine to be started untilthe cause of the casualty has been determined andcorrected.1. Check the lube oil pressure.2. Check the saltwater dump dischargepressure and the temperature of the cooling water.3. Check the freshwater level in the expansiontank and the temperature of the freshwater.4. Check the sea suction and the overboardvalves.3. Check the cylinders by jacking over withtest cocks open.4. Put pressure test on freshwater system andconduct visual inspection of the units.5. Replace part or parts, as necessary.6. Start the lube oil purifier to remove waterfrom the lubricating oil.7. After repairs have been completed, test theengine and place it back in commission.5. Vent the freshwater and the saltwaterpumps.6. Check the operation of the thermostat con-trol valve to the lube oil and freshwater heatexchanger.7. Report any trouble found to the engineerofficer and the bridge. Request permission tosecure the engine for repairs.8. When permission is received, make repairs.9. After repairs are completed, check theengine and, after it is operating properly, reportto the engineer officer and the bridge.INOPERATIVE SPEED GOVERNOR1. Control the engine manually, if possible.2. Notify the engineer officer and the bridge,and request permission to secure the engine forrepairs.ENGINE COOLING WATERTEMPERATURE ABOVE THEALLOWED LIMIT3. When permission has been obtained, checkthe governor control mechanism.4. Check the linkage for binding or sticking.5. Check the lubrication; flush and refill withproper oil.1. Notify the bridge.2. Reduce the load and the speed of theengine.3. Check the freshwater level in the expansiontank.6. Check setting of needle valve.7. Make repairs. When they are completed,start the engine and check its operation. Whenit is operating properly, notify the engineer of-ficer and the bridge.4. Check the saltwater discharge pressure.5. Check the sea suction and the dischargevalves.6. Vent the freshwater and the saltwaterpumps.7. Check the setting and operation of thetemperature regulating valve.9-7
