PALLETIZED CARGOPallets and pallet nets are procured from the AirForce. The 463L pallet (fig. 2-1) is standard systemfor the movement of concentrated cargo used by theAir Force. Military airlift aircraft are equipped with adual-rail system consisting of rows of rollers whichallow 463L pallets to move easily into and out of theaircraft.The 463L pallet is made of corrosion-resistant aluminum and has a soft wood core. Thepallet has an outside dimension of 108 inches by 88inches and is 2 1/4 inches thick. The cargo area spaceis 104 inches by 84 inches which is enough space toallow 2 inches around the 436L pallets to attachstraps, nets, or other restraint devices. A 436L palletweighs 290 pounds empty and has a maximum loadcapacity of 10,000 pounds; however, to prolong palletlife, a load placed on a pallet should not exceed 7,500pounds.Pallet nets provide adequate restraint for 10,000pounds of cargo when properly attached to the 463Lpallet. There are three nets to a set: two side nets andone top net (fig. 2-13). The side nets are green incolor, and the top net is yellow.
