PERFORM FUEL SPILL BACK TEMPERATURE TEST
SYMPTOM
Low fuel pressure.
MALFUNCTION
Engine runs rough/low on power.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
WARNING
Accidental or intentional introduction of liquid contaminants into the
environment may result in a violation of state, federal, and military
regulations. Refer to local environmental office for information concerning
storage, use, and disposal of these liquids. Failure to comply may cause
damage to environment and health of personnel. Seek medical attention
in the event of injury.
Fuel/solvent/oil is slippery and may cause falls. Wipe up spillage
immediately with rags. Dispose of materials in accordance with local
hazardous waste disposal procedures. Failure to comply may result in
personnel injury or death.
Oils and fluids are flammable and may cause irritation to the eyes or
skin. Use in well-ventilated areas and keep away from heat and open
flame. Wear protective goggles and clothing. In case oil or fluid comes in
contact with:
Eyes, flush immediately with water.
Skin, wash with soap and water.
Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
Fuel is very flammable and can explode easily.
When working with fuel, post signs that read: ʺSMOKING IS
PROHIBITED ABOARD THIS VESSEL".
Personnel must wear chemical resistant gloves when handling fuels.
Promptly wash exposed skin and change fuel-soaked clothing.
In case of engine room fire, evacuate the engine room immediately. Do
not re-enter the engine room until the engine room has been ventilated
and the air quality has been tested.
Keep fuel away from open flame or extreme heat.
Always keep fire extinguisher within easy reach when working with fuel.
Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
NOTE
This troubleshooting procedure is typical for both port and starboard engines.
