FILLING COOLING SYSTEM
1.
Ensure drain cocks (Figure 4, Items 3, 5, 6, and 8) are closed.
WARNING
Accidental or intentional introduction of liquid contaminants into the environment
may result in a violation of state, federal, and military regulations. Refer to local
environmental office for information concerning storage, use, and disposal of
these liquids. Failure to comply may cause damage to environment and health
of personnel. Seek medical attention in the event of injury.
Fuel/solvent/oil is slippery and may cause falls. Wipe up spillage immediately with
rags. Dispose of materials in accordance with local hazardous waste disposal
procedures. Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
Oils and fluids are flammable and may cause irritation to the eyes or skin. Use in
well-ventilated areas and keep away from heat and open flame. Wear protective
goggles and clothing. In case oil or fluid comes in contact with:
Eyes, flush immediately with water.
Skin, wash with soap and water.
Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.

Prepare a 50/50 solution of antifreeze and distilled water (TB 55-1900-207-24).
3.
Add corrosion inhibitor to antifreeze and distilled water solution (TB 55-1900-207-24).
WARNING
Do not remove pressure control cap from heat exchanger or attempt to drain the solution
until engine has cooled. Sudden release of pressure can result in loss of solution. Failure
to comply may result in personnel injury or death.

Remove pressure control cap (Figure 5, Item 1) from heat exchanger (Figure 5, Item 2) by pressing down
and rotating counterclockwise.
5.
Add antifreeze and water solution through fill neck (Figure 5, Item 2) until solution level is 1 in. (2.5 cm)
below the fill neck (Figure 5, Item 2).
6.
Install pressure control cap (Figure 5, Item 1) onto heat exchanger filler neck (Figure 5, Item 2) by pressing
down on cap and turning clockwise.
