REMOVAL
NOTE
This task is typical for the replacement of poppet valve rocker arm covers on both port and
starboard engines.
1.
Loosen hose clamp (Figure 1, Item 1).
2.
Disconnect hose (Figure 1, Item 17) from breather housing (Figure 1, Item 2).
WARNING
Cleaner may cause irritation to eyes or skin. In case cleaner comes in contact with eyes or
skin, immediately flush eyes with water, wash skin with soap and water. Wear protective
goggles, gloves, and clothing. Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
3.
Using cleaning cloth and cleaner, clean cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover (Figure 1, Item 6) and
surrounding area.
4.
Remove two bolts (Figure 1, Item 3), washers (Figure 1, Item 4), and silicone isolators (Figure 1, Item 5)
from cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover (Figure 1, Item 6).
5.
Remove cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover (Figure 1, Item 6).
6.
Remove cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover gasket (Figure 1, Item 11) and discard.
7.
Remove screw (Figure 1, Item 15) from breather retaining plate (Figure 1, Item 14).
8.
Remove breather retaining plate (Figure 1, Item 14), breather element (Figure 1, Item 13), and retainer
(Figure 1, Item 12) from cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover (Figure 1, Item 6).
9.
Remove breather housing (Figure 1, Item 2) and seal (Figure 1, Item 16) from cylinder head poppet valve
rocker arm cover (Figure 1, Item 6). Discard seal.
10.
Rotate filler cap plug handle (Figure 1, Item 8) counterclockwise and remove filler cap plug
(Figure 1, Item 7) from cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover (Figure 1, Item 6) (left cylinder head
poppet valve rocker arm cover only).
11.
Remove chain hook (Figure 1, Item 9) from strainer (Figure 1, Item 10).
12.
Remove strainer (Figure 1, Item 10) from left cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm cover
(Figure 1, Item 6).
