The ripper is a powerful tool used tobreak up compacted materials; to uproot boulders andstumps; to loosen shale, sandsstone, and asphalt pave-ment; and to rip up concrete slabs. After these materialsare uprooted or ripped, they can be removed easier byNOTE: Care should be taken when turning with theripper teeth in the ground, because damage to the ripperteeth and assembly can occur.WinchesA winch is mounted on the rear of the dozer(fig. 11-21) and is directly geared to the rear powertakeoff.
