PERFORM ENGINE COMPRESSION TEST - Continued
9.
Use a spare fuel pipe to fabricate a jumper connection (Figure 2, Item 4) between the fuel inlet
(Figure 2, Item 3) and return manifold connector (Figure 2, Item 5).
CAUTION
Engine must be running to obtain accurate compression reading. Do not crank starter
motor to obtain compression reading. Failure to comply may result in damage to
equipment.
10.
Start engine and run at 600 RPM (TM 55-1925-205-10).
NOTE
The compression in any cylinder must not be less than 450 PSI (3,102.6 kPa) at sea level.
The variation in compression between cylinders must not exceed 25 PSI (172.4 kPa).
11.
Record compression reading shown on pressure gauge (Figure 2, Item 1).
12.
Repeat Steps 6 through 11 to check compression in each of the remaining cylinders.
13.
Stop engine (TM 55-1925-205-10).
14.
Disconnect fuel pipe jumper (Figure 2, Item 4) between fuel inlet (Figure 2, Item 3) and return manifold
connector (Figure 2, Item 5).
15.
Remove adapter (Figure 2, Item 2) and pressure gauge (Figure 2, Item 1) from injector orifice.
Figure 2. Fuel Pressure Gauge and Adapter.
16.
Install fuel injector (Figure 1, Item 4) (WP 0091).
17.
Install fuel pipes (Figure 1, Items 1 and 2) on injector (Figure 1, Item 4) and fuel connectors
(Figure 1, Item 3).
18.
Install cylinder head poppet valve rocker arm covers (WP 0044).
