INSPECTION - Continued
5.
Inspect rocker arm shaft brackets (Figure 1, Item10) for cracks. Install new bracket if damaged.
END OF TASK
INSTALLATION
NOTE
The injector rocker arm (center arm of group) is slightly different from exhaust
valve rocker arms. The boss for the shaft of end rocker arms is longer on one side
only. The extended boss side of exhaust rocker arms must face toward middle
(injector) rocker arm. Exhaust rocker arms also have a flat spot beneath rocker
shaft hole.
If a rocker arm is damaged or breaks, pushrod should always be replaced when a
new rocker arm is installed.
1.
To provide sufficient clearance between exhaust valve and piston when crankshaft is rotated, thread each of
three rocker arms (Figure 1, Item 4) onto pushrods (Figure 1, Item 7) until end of pushrod is flush with inner
side of clevis yoke (Figure 1, Item 5).
2.
Coat shaft (Figure 1, Item 2) with clean engine lubricating oil and slide it through three rocker arms
(Figure 1, Item 4).
3.
Install two brackets (Figure 1, Item 10), one over each end of shaft (Figure 1, Item 2), with finished face of
bracket next to rocker arms (Figure 1, Item 4).
4.
Install rocker arm bracket bolts (Figure 1, Item 1) by inserting bolts through bracket (Figure 1, Item 10) and
shaft (Figure 1, Item 5).
5.
Position rocker arms (Figure 1, Item 4) down on valve bridge (Figure 1, Item 9).
6.
Hold each pushrod (Figure 1, Item 7) while tightening three locknuts (Figure 1, Item 8).
