SUSTAINMENT MAINTENANCE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD CAM FOLLOWER REPLACEMENT
Remove cam follower (Figure 2, Item 4) from heated lubricating oil.

REMOVAL
1.
Position cylinder head (Figure 1, Item 1) on two wooden wedges (Figure 1, Item 2).
2.
Remove two bolts (Figure 1, Item 3) and lockwashers (Figure 1, Item 4) from cam follower guide
(Figure 1, Item 5). Discard lockwashers.
3.
Remove cam follower guide (Figure 1, Item 5) from cylinder head (Figure 1, Item 1).
4.
Remove cam follower (Figure 1, Item 6) from cylinder head (Figure 1, Item 1).

WARNING
Fuel/Oil may cause irritation to eyes or skin. Wear protective goggles, gloves, and clothing.
Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
1.
Using cleaning cloth and lubricating oil, remove preservative from new cam follower (Figure 2, Item 4).
2.
Using cleaning cloth, dry cam follower (Figure 2, Item 4).
WARNING
Lubricating oil will be extremely hot. Use caution when handling. Failure to comply may
result in personnel injury.
3.
Immerse cam follower (Figure 2, Item 4) in lubricating oil heated to 100 to 125F (38 to 52C) for one hour.
4.
Rotate cam roller every fifteen minutes.
