SUSTAINMENT MAINTENANCE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD EXHAUST VALVE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Set cylinder head (Figure 1, Item 5) on its side.

NOTE
The following procedure is typical for removal and installation of all thirty-two cylinder head
exhaust valves on both port and starboard engines.
REMOVAL
1.
Support cylinder head (Figure 1, Item 5), with bottom side down, on two wood blocks.
NOTE
If the same exhaust valves are to be installed, number each valve as to location.
2.
Using valve spring compressor, compress exhaust valve spring (Figure 1, Item 3).
3.
Remove two retaining wedges (Figure 1, Item 1).
4.
Release pressure on spring (Figure 1, Item 3) and remove spring compressor.
5.
Remove retaining cap (Figure 1, Item 2), spring (Figure 1, Item 3), and spring seat (Figure 1, Item 4).
6.
Remove exhaust valve (Figure 1, Item 6).
7.
Tag exhaust valve (Figure 1, Item 6) for reuse.
8.
Repeat Steps 2 through 7 on remaining exhaust valves (Figure 1, Item 6).
