WARNING
Keep away from hanging loads, heavy parts, and overhead equipment. Never crawl under
equipment when performing maintenance unless equipment is securely blocked. Use
suitable lifting devices to move hanging loads and heavy parts. Equipment may fall. Always
use a helper to guide load. Failure to comply may result in personnel injury or death.
NOTE
It is important to take note of the location of each rod and main bearing cap to ensure that
they are installed in the same location. If the bearings are to be reused they also must be
returned to the same location.
REMOVAL
1.
Remove hex bolts with washer (Figure 1, Item 3) from stabilizers (Figure 1, Item 1).
2.
Remove hex head bolts (Figure 1, Item 2) from main bearing caps (Figure 1, Item 5).
3.
Remove stabilizers (Figure 1, Item 1) and main bearing caps (Figure 1, Item 5).
4.
Tag main bearings caps (Figure 1, Item 5) and main bearings (Figure 1, Item 6).
5.
Remove lower bearings (Figure 1, Item 6) from main bearings caps (Figure 1, Item 5).
6.
Remove two lower thrust washer halves (Figure 1, Item 4) from each side of the rear main bearing cap
(Figure 1, Item 5).
7.
Use an overhead hoist and a suitable nylon sling to carefully lift crankshaft assembly (Figure 1, Item 7) from
the engine block (Figure 1, Item 11).
8.
Tag and remove upper bearings (Figure 1, Item 8) from upper bearing surface (Figure 1, Item 10).
9.
Remove two upper thrust washer halves (Figure 1, Item 9) from each side of the upper bearing surface
(Figure 1, Item 10).
10.
Remove the oil pump drive gear (Figure 1, Item 12) from the crankshaft (Figure 1, Item 7).
