Place cleaning cloth between camshaft gears (Figure 1, Item 1) to stop gears from rotating.
5.
Using torque wrench, torque cap screw (Figure 2, Item 3) to 80 to 90 ft-lb (108 to 122 Nm).
6.
Remove cleaning cloth.
7.
Using dial indicator, check backlash of idler gear (Figure 2, Item 2).
NOTE
If tolerances are exceeded, camshaft gears will be replaced as a set.
8.
Verify that backlash is between 0.002 to 0.008 in. (0.00508 to 0.2032 cm) on new gears and does not
exceed 0.010 in. (0.0254 cm) on used gears.

FOLLOW-ON MAINTENANCE
1.
Install crankshaft rear oil seal (WP 0062).
2.
Install flywheel housing (WP 0072).
3.
Install flywheel (WP 0070).
4.
Install lube oil pan (WP 0127).
5.
Install electronic governor magnetic pick-up (WP 0100).
6.
Install raw water pump (WP 0155).
7.
Install electrical system hour meter bracket (WP 0162).
8.
Install electrical system hour meter (WP 0161).
9.
Remove engine from stand (WP 0033).
10.
Install lube oil cooler (WP 0128).
11.
Install marine gear oil cooler mounting bracket (WP 0158).
12.
Install overspeed governor (WP 0169).
13.
Install lube oil dipstick tube assembly (WP 0130).
14.
Install starting motor (WP 0164).
15.
Install air box drains (TM 55-1925-205-10).
16.
Install air box covers (WP 0036).
17.
Install fuel cooler (WP 0081).
18.
Install marine gear oil cooler (TM 55-2040-211-24).
19.
Install exhaust manifolds (WP 0157).
